OUR GARDENS

During your visit to the Inn we hope you will experience the beauty of our various annual and perennial gardens which have been designed to provide a peaceful backdrop in any season. We have a variety of plants that bloom most of the year......starting with pansies and daffodils in the Spring through to hollies, pachysandra and paper whites for the Holiday season. Although we?re still trying to find those "miracle plants" which have the greatest strength and longest life span for our tropical season, we seem to have found some that are particularly hardy. ( This year we?ve had some real challenges with the mandated water rationing.)

Our garden at the rear entrance to the Inn is complimented with a water feature assembled from an old iron syrup boiler and a antique copper hand pump from Vermont. Perennials in this garden are regularly supplemented with brightly colored seasonal annuals. Adjacent to this garden is our patio scattered with ice cream shop tables and chairs, an umbrella table and a variety of giant hibiscus, azaleas, oleander, hollies and crepe myrtle grace the gardens. Our fluffy cat, "Kat" likes to entertain here while guests enjoy a steamy cup of morning coffee or a refreshing glass of ice tea.

The entrance to the garden which has been the site of many small weddings is flanked with two small gardens that are home for a variety of azaleas, roses, day lilies and confederate jasmine in addition to a variety of perennials and annuals.

Adjacent to the Brannen House, under the shade of a large magnolia and a graceful dogwood, lies a large pond that is home to both goldfish and koi. A winding pathway of slate flagstone winds through this garden designed to complement the tranquility of the pond and leads to sitting areas for quiet relaxation and contemplation.

The enclosed yard beside the Brannen House is only three years old. We've worked diligently here to enhance the quality of the soil to support the growth of a variety of bushes and perennials. While each year is better than the prior, we continue to search for those varieties which will provide for a continuous array of color.

Our newest garden is our herb garden which we hope over time will be the major supplier of herbs used in seasoning our food. While we?re off to a good start, we've got a fair way to go before that is possible. It does however give us a great feeling to be able to produce something we can use in our Kitchen.
